Welcome to my new little house!

¡Bienvenidos a mi nueva casita! Un nuevo modelo de bolso casita, hecho a medida. Me pidieron que tuviese tejado a dos aguas y la cremallera por detrás. Y aquí está, un bolso en tonos rojos y verdes, con su tejado, chimenea, puertas y ventanas. La puerta es, de nuevo, un pequeño bolsillo. El asa bicolor, ajustable, y de largo suficiente para que lo pueda usar también un mayor. Por si alguien se anima ;)

A mi hija le ha encantado. Tanto, que se prestó voluntaria sin poner ninguna pega a la sesión de fotos. Se merecer que le haga uno, ya me lo ha pedido varias veces. En cuanto tenga algo de tiempo.

Este bolso va con su monedero a juego y, como no podía faltar, también con un broche en forma de nube.

Welcome to my new little house! Another version of the Little House bag, made to order. It had to be with this kind of roof and the zipper at the back. So here it goes, a nice bag in red and green colors, with a roof, chimney, windows and door, which is, again, a little pocket. The strap is bicolor, adjustable, and long enough to be used by an adult, in case somebody is tempted to do so ;)

My daughter loves it. So much that she volunteered to participate in the photo session. She deserves one for herself. As soon as I have some spare time.

This bag comes together with a coordinated little house wallet and, of course, with a cloud brooch.

Este año sí!

El año pasado, por unas cosas o por otras, se nos fue escapando la primavera y cuando nos quisimos dar cuenta ya era demasiado tarde para poner la huerta. Así que este año hemos estado atentos y no hemos dejado pasar la oportunidad, que el placer de prepararse una ensalada con lechuga y tomates recién recolectados no tiene precio.

Como teníamos la huerta un tanto abandonada habían crecido hierbas de todos los colores y tamaños. Entre la limpieza profunda que había que hacer y acordándonos de los problemas que nos dieron otros años los topos o topillos, no sé muy bien qué tipo es el que merodea por aquí, decidimos cambiar la manera de plantar. Hasta ahora teníamos la huerta a ras de suelo, de las de toda la vida. Y había unos topos, una familia entera diría yo, que no paraban de comerse las cebollas y fastidiar alguna que otra tomatera. Como no somos muy partidarios de los venenos hemos buscado otra solución. ¡Esperemos que funcione! Hemos construído unas camas de plantación elevadas, una especie de cajones de madera con una malla en el fondo para evitar que los topos puedan colarse y campar a sus anchas por debajo de nuestras plantitas.

Y así es como ha quedado (no me di cuenta de hacer fotos del montaje). Por el momento tenemos tres, quizá el año que viene ampliemos, a ver qué tal se da.
En una tenemos ruibarbo, para el que tendremos que esperar al año que viene para poder recolectar algo. Como es una planta que sobrevive año tras año tengo grandes esperanzas de poder hacer mermeladas y pasteles en un futuro.
En la cama central hemos puesto calabazas, que si prosperan todas vamos a tener para regalar.
Y en la última unos tomates de rama, cherry y algunas lechuguillas.

Ahora a regar y cuidar regularmente para garantizar una buena cosecha. A ver si este verano os puedo enseñar los resultados. :)

Last year the spring season passed by quicker than we expected and we did not react on time to prepare our kitchen garden. So this year we made our homework and were ready on time. Having the possibility of preparing a salad with fresh ingredients is priceless.

Since we did not work on the kitchen garden for a long time there were all type of wild plants, spreading all around the place. Considering the hard work we had in front of us anyway and the problems we faced with moles last year, we decided to change the structure. So far we had a standard kitchen garden, at ground level. This time we have built a few structures, a kind of wooden boxes with a mesh at the bottom to stop the moles. I hope it works!

We have planted rhubarb in one of them, pumpkins in the other and tomatoes, cherries and lettuces in the last one.

Now we just need to take care of them and wait till they start producing delicious veggies.

Está claro que el producto estrella de la temporada son las casitas, en sus diferentes versiones. Aparte del pedido para el museo Thyssen me han ido llegando otros pedidos para bolsos, monederos y algún que otro móvil. Como éste, que va a cruzar el charco y viaja a Dallas. Hacia allí va ahora mismo, bien protegido en su cajita.

There is no doubt that the best seller of the season are the little houses, in the different versions. Apart from the custom order for the Thyssen Museum some other requests have been arriving to Marabara, little houses bags, wallets and mobiles. Like this one, which is now flying to Dallas, well protected inside this nice box.

PC Bag

Si el primer bolso para PC que hice fue en tonos burdéos, a gusto del cliente, el segundo es en color piedra. También, un encargo personalizado, donde mi cliente y yo hemos elegido conjuntamente las telas. ¿Os acordáis de las cartas de colores que hice hace unas semanas? pues fue precisamente para facilitar la elección. Así es mucho más sencillo mostrar las diferentes posibilidades y combinaciones loneta-telas estampadas.

Uno de estos bolsos se pasea por Lisboa, el otro lo hará pronto por Carolina del Norte, en Estados Unidos, hacia donde ya está de camino.
De ahí también sus nombres, bolso Lisbon el primero y bolso Carolina el segundo. ¿Qué ciudad será la siguiente?

The first PC Bag that I made was in deep red color, the second one features a stone palette, grey-brownish tone. Again, it's been a custom order, where we together decided upon the fabrics to be used. Do you remember the fabric color cards that I prepared a few weeks ago? It was due to this order indeed, to facilitate the selection. Using the color card makes the process much easier.

One of the bags is now walking around in Lisbon, the other one will do it very soon in North Carolina, in the States. It is now on its way to Greensboro.
The names of the bags correspond to their destinations, Lisbon for the first one and Carolina for the second. Which city will be the next one?

Esta caja, repleta de cosas bonitas, está de camino a Logroño, a una tienda de lo más chula. Se llama DoDo Arts & Crafts, y allí podéis encontrar, entre otras cosas, ilustraciones y cojines de Petra Panfilova, las libretas preciosas de Con Ele de Eva... y dentro de muy poco también cositas de Marabara. Ah! además organizan talleres y cursos. Un sitio para perderse.

Nada más ver esta tela la clasifiqué para joyeros de viaje. El estampado, los colores... me parece perfecta para ello. Y aquí está ya el primer joyero. Tonos morados, marrón y ocre-amarillo, me encanta la combinación.

When I first saw this fabric I immediately thought it would be ideal for travel jewelry rolls. The print, the colors... I love it. And here it comes the first one. A purple color palette, with a bit of brown and mustard, the perfect combination.

Entre casita y casita van saliendo algunas otras cosas, de pedidos particulares que he ido recibiendo. Como este bolso de mano, confeccionado con una tela japonesa de colores suaves, ideal para la primavera y el verano. Para el forro he elegido un estampado en lunares de tonos azules, que creo queda muy bien con el exterior.

In parallel with the massive little house production some other things are coming out of the atelier. Like this curvy clutch, made of a nice japanese cotton fabric. For the lining I chose a polka dot cotton in turquoise color, which combines pretty well with the exterior. The colors are soft and refreshing, ideal for spring or summer time.

Buttons, buttons, buttons!

Hoy he recibido un paquetito chulísimo. Me lo envía mi querida Alicia, una chica de lo más maja. Como sabe que uso botones para algunas de mis cosas me ha mandado una buena colección. De todos los colores y todos los tamaños, y todos la mar de bonitos. Me vienen fenomenal. Para los cojines, para los tarjeteros... y para otras cosas que se me vayan ocurriendo.
¡¡Un millón de gracias Alicia!! ¡¡Qué detallazo!!

Today the postman brought a really nice surprise for me. I got this package, from the lovely Alicia. She knows that I am using buttons in some of my creations and she sent me a nice collection. Now I have lot of buttons, in different colors, sizes... very beautiful ones. I will use them for my little house cushions, for the business card holders... and for any other thing that might come to my mind.
Thanks so much Alicia!! It's been a very nice surprise!!

The tiniest little house ever

Cualquiera diría que no tengo nada que hacer. Pero no puedo evitarlo, tengo que ir picoteando por aquí y por allá e ir haciendo algunas cosas que me vienen a la cabeza.
Con tanta casita rondando en el taller lo normal es que alguna más apareciese, verdad? Pues así ha sido. Según iba apartando los recortes de tela de unos cuantos monederos pensé en estas mini (súper mini) casitas. La primera ya está lista, que se ha convertido en broche. Y aquí os la presento.

Anyone could say I have nothing to do. But I cannot help it, I have to keep trying different things from time to time.
Having so many little houses around the studio it goes without saying that another one had to appear anytime. And this is what exactly happened. While I was cutting the pieces for some wallets I thought it would be nice to use the tiny scraps for a mini house. This is the first one and it is now a brooch.

Pues ya tengo listo el regalo del Día de la Madre. Una versión del bolso City lines, que os enseñé ayer. Las asas son de cuero en lugar de loneta de algodón. Y en este caso no le he añadido los remaches laterales, creo que queda muy bien así también. Quiero ponerle un botón de remache en el centro para así poder cerrar el bolso, pero ahora mismo no tengo el material necesario, con lo que tendrá que ser más adelante.

El forro también es diferente, pues la otra tela que solía usar ya se me ha agotado. He elegido un estampado en tonos marrón claro, que le va fenomenal.

Ahora queda envolver y listo!

I am ready with my mom's present! It is a version of the City lines bag, which I showed you yesterday. This time I used leather handles instead. And I did not add the snap fasteners on the sides. I think it looks very nice as well. I want to add a fastener in the middle so that you can close the bag. Unfortunately I do not have the material right now so it will need to wait for a while.

The lining is also different, as I have no more left from the previous one I was using. I selected a cotton fabric in light brown color, which combines perfectly with the exterior.

Now I only need to pack it and that's it!!

A Mother's Day present

Hoy mismo he entregado este bolso, que me encargaron como regalo para el Día de la Madre. Dio la casualidad de que viven en mi mismo pueblo, así que la entrega ha sido en mano. Y me encanta, porque así puedes conocer a quien ha hecho el pedido, charlar un rato. Y ellos también te conocen a ti y ponen cara a las manos detrás de Marabara. Rompe un poco esa frialdad de las ventas por internet y eso me gusta.

A este bolso le tengo un cariño especial pues es uno de los primeros diseños que hice. La forma, el tamaño, las asas tan cómodas... es ideal para el día a día. Y ese estampado geométrico tan marinero me encanta.

Aún tenía pendiente el regalo de mi madre (todo para última hora, no aprenderé...). Pero este pedido me dio la idea de hacerle un bolso similar, porque seguro que le va a gustar mucho. Estoy probando otro tipo de asa, en cuero, que os enseñaré tan pronto lo tenga terminado.

Y, para terminar, un detalle del envoltorio, con mis mini tarjetas de MOO, que me han llegado esta misma mañana. Son tan chulas.

A few days ago I received an order for the City lines bag. It will be a Mother's Day present. Surprisingly the customer and I happen to live in the same village so I handed over the bag directly to him. I love it! It is really rewarding to meet the person behind the order, chat a bit. Besides, they can meet you in person and have a face for Marabara's hands. Shopping in internet might be a bit impersonal.

I have a special feeling about this bag, since it is one of my first designs. Its shape, its size, its comfy handles... it is ideal for everyday life. And what to say about this geometric print, I love it!

I still had to decide about my own mother's present. So this order made me think that the city lines bag could be a good option. I am sure she will love it. So I am making now another one for my mom. I am trying a new style of handles, in leather. I will post some pictures as soon as I am ready.

Finally, a close up of the packaging, with my new MOO mini cards, which just arrived today. They are so pretty.

Little houses everywhere

Los primeros cojines ya terminados empiezan a salir del taller. Después de mucho cortar, marcar y componer, todos las piezas ya están listas para coser. Después toca rellenar, cerrar y pasar a la siguiente tanda de productos.

The first cushions are now finished. After a lot of work in cutting, placing pieces and mounting, they are all ready to meet the sewing machine. Then, the filling step will follow.

Los últimos días ando bastante liada con este pedido. Es un pedido especial, al menos a mi me lo parece. Y estoy la mar de contenta trabajando en él. Es para la tienda del Museo Thyssen Bornemisza, en Madrid, para una exposición del pintor Edward Hopper, que se celebrará del 12 de Junio al 16 de Septiembre.

Me han enviado unas fotos de algunos de los cuadros que estarán expuestos y, a partir de ahí, he diseñado mis casitas. Habrá cojines, monederos, móviles, bolsos... Ya os decía, estoy ocupada, ¡muy ocupada!

I am quite busy lately with an order. It is a very special one, at least to me. And I must say I am more than happy to be working on it. It is a custom order for the Thyssen Bornemisza Museum, in Madrid, specifically for the Edward Hopper exhibition that will take place from 12th of June till 16th of September.

I received a few photos of some of his paintings and, based on them, I designed my little houses. There will be cushions, wallets, mobiles, bags... You see, I am busy, very busy!

Cutting mode

After spending an afternoon with the cutter and ruler in my hands, several little mountains of pieces are growing on my table. More to come tomorrow!

Matisse clutch

This clutch is the result of a custom order, one of those where you get complete freedom to create what you want. From the design, to the size, style... the only requirement was to use, if possible, the Matisse print which I used for this other bag.
And this is what came out from my drawings. A fold over bag, with a different print on each side. A touch of glamour and red color on one side and a more romantic style in the other.
It comes with a detachable chain strap so you can use it also as a clutch.

Este ha sido uno de esos pedidos para dejar volar la imaginación. Total libertad para el diseño del modelo, forma, medidas... la única condición era, a ser posible, usar la tela con el estampado de Matisse, la misma que usé en este bolso bandolera.
Pensando, pensando, ha salido este diseño, un bolsito reversible, de solapa plegable con un estampado diferente en cada lado. Un toque de glamour y rojo pasión por un lado y un aire más romántico por el otro.
Lleva una asa de cadena de quita y pon, para poder usarlo también como bolso de mano, que en este modelo queda muy bonito.

Fabric color cards

Almost all the cotton solids that I use belong to the Kona Cotton by Robert Kaufman collection. They come in a wide variety of colors and tones so you can always find the best one for your project. There is a small problem though, as they do not have any printed reference in the fabric. So, if you order several yards of similar colors you will have a hard time to identify which ones they are.
That's why I wanted to get the color card, with the complete colors palette. Now it is here! A quick look and you get the matching color. Apart from being so pretty...

Being in the color card mode I spent some time in creating my own color card, with the different samples of cotton canvas that I have in my stash. A little piece of each color, glued on thick card stock, a name assigned to each one, and voilá, my fabric color card is ready.

Now it will be much easier to show the different colors available when somebody is asking about the different color possibilities for a specific bag.

La mayoría de telas lisas que uso son de la colección Kona Cotton de Robert Kaufman. La variedad es inmensa, con lo que siempre encuentras el tono adecuado. Tienen un pequeño problema, y es que, al contrario de las telas estampadas, éstas no traen referencia, ni un código de color, nada. Con lo que si pides varias de tonos similares te vuelves loco después para identificar cuál es cuál. Como los colores varían de la pantalla del ordenador a la realidad, más difícil todavía.

Por eso llevaba tiempo queriendo comprarme una carta de colores. Y, por fin, la tengo en mis manos. Ahora ya me resulta mucho más fácil identificar el color y saber la referencia para futuros pedidos. Además la carta es chulísima. Con lo que me gustan a mi los colores....

Puestos a jugar con las cartas de colores, aprovechando que me habían preguntado por la variedad de colores disponibles para el bolso de ordenador, invertí un poco de tiempo en hacer un muestrario de las lonetas que tengo. Un pedacito de cada una de ellas pegado sobre una cartulina, con su correspondiente nombre, y voilá, mi carta de colores particular.

La verdad es que lo tenía que haber hecho antes, porque facilita mucho la selección de telas para coordinar.

La Fruslería del mercado

El mercado de San Fernando, en pleno barrio de Lavapiés, en Madrid, se está reinventando. En su interior, entre fruterías y puestos de los de siempre, están abriendo sus puertas otros espacios, diferentes, alternativos, que ofrecen productos muy diversos. Desde un bar de zumos naturales, un estudio de arquitectura, una mercería... hasta una tienda de artesanía, La Fruslería del mercado.

La Fruslería se inaugura este próximo Sábado, y allí podrás encontrar una selección de cositas de Marabara, bolsos, monederos, móviles... Lo mejor es que te des una vuelta por la zona y así ver de cerca esta transformación.
Algo para observar es sin duda la fachada del mercado, de lo más peculiar. ¿Quién diría que esta fachada es la de un mercado de abastos?

While working on Sandra's pencil roll I realized this is the third one that I personalized with Sandra's name. It seems it is made for them. To all Sandras around the world, you need to have yours!

Mientras bordaba el nombre del estuche de Sandra me he dado cuenta de que es ya el tercero que personalizo con este nombre. Es como si este estuche fuese para ellas. Sandras del mundo, ya sabéis, ¡no os podéis quedar sin un estuche arco iris!

Looking inside

I promised to show some photos of the interior of the Matisse Bag. I already gave you some hints but did not have time to take decent pictures. So, here they go!

As I said, it comes with everything, with all the accessories. In one side, a row of simple pockets, three in total, in different sizes. They are ideal to carry your mobile, your sunglasses and a wallet, for example. And, on the other side, a zippered pocket, for your smaller items.

Finally, as the swivel hook had a very warm welcome it is also here. A small key swivel hook, always useful.

Tenía pendiente enseñaros el interior del bolso Matisse, que aunque os di un avance de lo que lleva no había tenido tiempo de hacerle fotos en condiciones. ¡Pues aquí van! Como ya comenté, no le falta de nada. Todo un lateral de bolsillos simples, tres en total, de distintos tamaños, ideales para el móvil, las gafas y un monedero, por poner un ejemplo. Y al otro lado, uno con cremallera, para las cosas más pequeñas o delicadas.

Como la idea del mosquetón tuvo muy buena acogida, pues también, un mosquetón para las llaves, que nunca viene mal.

Decorated stones

A few stones and some gouache colors and chalk sticks is all you need to keep a child occupied for a while. Easy and cheap. They will have a lot of fun and the result is really nice. I love these decorated stones! They were painted by my daughter... You see, I am a proud mom! ;)

Nada tan sencillo y al alcance de todos como unas cuantas piedras y unos botes de témpera y tizas para mantener a un niño entretenido durante un buen rato. Se lo pasarán en grande y el resultado es chulísimo. ¡Me encantan estas piedrecitas decoradas! Por cierto, éstas las ha pintado mi hija... ya véis, soy una madre orgullosa ;)

Eco-bag family

It is not the first time I mention the workshop held in the first session of Hecho Por Mi, where I was teaching how to make an Eco-bag. And now you need to suffer it once again... ;) The reason behind is that I keep receiving photos of the eco-bags made by the participants, which is a real pleasure so I cannot help but showing them here. The Eco-bag family is growing every day!

Alicia, from Arbolande, has even published a post in her blog, here, where you can see her Eco-bags. I am so happy to see them! I already have my favorite, with no doubt, the one with the dotted pocket. Simply pretty!
Apart from the Eco-bags Alicia has a special talent for working with flowers. If you want to enjoy looking at some beautiful flower arrangements go and visit her blog.

No es la primera vez que hablo del taller que di en Hecho Por Mi, donde nos lo pasamos en grande haciendo una Eco-bag. Lo sé, soy una pesada. Pero es que, aparte de ser el primero que hice (quedándome con ganas de más, por cierto), los participantes me han ido enviando fotos de las bolsas tan preciosas que salieron de allí. La familia de las Eco-bags crece y crece.

Alicia, de Arbolande, hasta ha dedicado una entrada en su blog, podéis verla aquí. ¡Qué ilusión más grande! Y qué decir de las eco-bags que ha hecho, una maravilla. Yo ya tengo preferida, la del bolsillo de topos, ¡pero qué bonita!

Etsy France Press Day

A few weeks ago, at the end of March, Etsy France admin got in touch with me and asked if I could loan them my Little House cushion for their Press Day, an event where they would be recreating an apartment of a young couple with a child. The idea was to have as many handmade stuff as possible, all available in Etsy. And here we are, my Little House cushion flew to Paris and was there!! surrounded by many adorable products.

Hace unas semanas, a principios de Marzo, la administradora de Etsy en Francia se puso en contacto conmigo, preguntándome si me gustaría prestarles mi cojín casita para el Etsy France Press Day, un evento donde recrearían un apartamento de una pareja joven con un niño. Para ello querían contar con el mayor número posible de objetos hechos artesanalmente, de venta en Etsy. Y, cómo no, me encantó la idea y acepté sin pensármelo mucho, de manera de mi cojín casita partió rumbo a Paris, y allí estuvo, participando en este evento.
El día de prensa fue hace una semana y éste es un resumen en fotos de todo lo que estaba expuesto. Lo podéis ver en la página de Facebook de Etsy France. Qué cantidad de cosas chulas, y entre ellas ¡¡mi cojín!!

Matisse

As the title says this post is about Matisse. I love his paintings, with all those vibrant colors. I also love the way he painted, so different. That's why I like it so much.
However, the reason why I am talking about Matisse is not only because I like it, but mainly because I incorporated his paintings in the last bag I've just finished. I have a fabric featuring a print inspired on him. I'd been thinking for a while about the best way to use it and that's how this bag came out.
It is made of a brushed cotton canvas, in black color, to highlight the print, which has beautiful colors.

For the interior, a lining in black and white, with a little touch of red for the complements. Yes, I included a bit of everything in this bag! Como dice el título este post va sobre Matisse. Me encanta su pintura, con esos colores tan vivos, tan alegres. Y esa manera de pintar tan peculiar. Es diferente, y por eso me gusta.
Pero la razón por la que hablo de Matisse hoy no es sólo porque me guste sino porque lo he incorporado al último bolso que acabo de terminar. Tengo una tela con un estampado inspirado en este pintor. Y pensando en cómo usarla surgió este bolso. Lo he hecho en loneta cepillada de color negro, para que destaque el estampado, que tiene unos colores preciosos.

Para el interior, algo sencillo, en blanco y negro, pero con un guiño de color rojo en los complementos. Sí, ¡le he puesto de todo! Lleva un mosquetón para las llaves, un bolsillo con cremallera a un lado y una hilera de bolsillos simples al otro, de diferentes tamaños, donde repartir el móvil, las gafas, el monedero... lo que quieras. Así que este bolso tiene un doble extra :). Ah, y con asa regulable, ¡por supuesto!

Hoy ya no me daba tiempo a hacer más fotos, estoy contando las horas para irme unos días de vacaciones, preparando maletas... qué ganas! Pero prometo poner más detalles a la vuelta.

A few little extras that I have added to the messenger bags. A longer and adjustable strap... because we all are not the same size, aren't we? And an interior swivel hook to find your keys easily, simply because looking for the keys like crazy it is not my cup of tea.

Pequeños extras que acabo de incorporar a los bolsos bandolera. Un asa más larga y regulable... porque no todos somos iguales. Y un mosquetón interior para tener siempre localizadas las llaves, que eso de rebuscar en el fondo del bolso como una loca no va conmigo.

Pink Cherry Brooch

If the fabric selected a few days ago for this brooch was the cherry blossoms I couldn't help to use also my other favorite japanese print. The one with little pink flowers, so lovely.
The result is a beautiful brooch, a bit smaller than the previous one, which will be ideal to use on any cloth, a jacket, a coat, a pullover... It will look nice anywhere!

Si hace unos días la protagonista era la tela verde con florecitas rojas no podía dejar de lado a mi favorita, otra tela japonesa, pero en tonos grises y rosas. Todo un clásico ya en mis bolsos, verdad?
Como no podía faltar, he hecho un broche con base de madera y esta tela tan maravillosa. Este es un pelín más pequeño. Un detalle ideal para lucir en cualquier prenda, chaqueta, abrigo, jersey... quedará bien en cualquier sitio.
