About inspiration and ideas

En ocasiones las ideas vienen solas, de repente, cuando menos te lo esperas. Por eso nunca falta una libreta en mi bolso, ni en la mesilla, nunca sabes cuando la puedes necesitar. Sobre libretas hablaré dentro de poco, que tengo unas preciosísimas, de esas que casi te da pena usarlas. Pero eso para otro día.

Otras veces, sin embargo, las ideas se resisten, no llegan. Yo creo que están ahí, pero son tímidas y no se atreven a asomar la cabecita. Necesitan un pequeño empujón. A mi me sirve algo tan simple como ponerme a garabatear, cualquier cosa, todo lo que se me venga a la mente en ese momento, o lo que veo a mi alrededor, todo ayuda a que esas ideas se vayan animando a salir de su escondite. Y al final, entre garabato y garabato, muchas veces salen cosas chulas.
Así es como surgió este pececillo. Un monedero en forma de pez, alegre y divertido.

Sometimes the inspiration comes suddenly, at anytime, when you less expects it. That's why I always carry a notebook in my handbag, you never know when it will come in handy. I will talk a bit more about notebooks soon, I have a couple of lovely ones, so pretty that I am having a hard time to use them. But let's leave it for another day.

In other occasions, however, the ideas do not arrive so easily. I do think they are somewhere there, but they are quite shy and do not want to be seen. They need a little push. What works for me it is simply to doodle, anything, everything that comes to my mind or even what I can see around. This helps this shy inspiration to come up. At the end, between drawing and drawing, very nice ideas appear.
This is how this little fish arrived. A wallet in the shape of a lovely fish, happy and funny.

Little pleasures

Tarde de domingo entre fogones, preparando una buena tanda de mermelada casera. Un pequeño placer para disfrutar a lo largo del invierno. Hoy han sido las ciruelas, que ya recogimos hace un tiempo, algo verdes aún, para evitar que los pájaros de la zona, al parecer desesperadamente hambrientos, acabasen con ellas antes de poder ni siquiera olerlas. Suerte que han ido madurando fuera del árbol sin problemas.

A principios del verano fue la época de los albaricoques y dentro de unas semanas le tocará al membrillo. Poco a poco vamos llenando la despensa.

Para marcar las conservas habitualmente usaba pegatinas. Pero es un engorro quitarlas después para poder re-usar los tarros. Así que he cambiado el sistema y les he colocado unas etiquetas de cartulina atadas con un cordel. Quedan monísimos y además me ahorraré el estar rascando pegatinas más adelante.

Preparar esta mermelada es de lo más sencillo. Si alguien necesita receta no tiene más que decírmelo.

A Sunday afternoon in the kitchen, preparing delightful homemade preserves. A little pleasure to enjoy during coming winter. Today we've prepared plums preserve, which we picked some time ago already, a little bit green indeed, to avoid that the hungry birds would eat them all. Luckily they ripen inside the fridge.

At the beginning of the summer it was time for apricots preserve and in a few weeks we'll be picking the quinces to prepare a delicious quince jelly. Our pantry is getting full slowly.

In previous years I used stickers to label the different preserves. It is fast and easy but a complete headache to remove them if you want to reuse the jars. So I changed a bit this time and I've used a lever punch to create some nice cardboard labels, which I attached with baker's twine.

The recipe for this preserve is really easy. If anybody wants it just let me know.

Packaging ideas - Ideas de envoltorios

De vez en cuando os voy enseñando alguno de los envoltorios que hago para los envíos de Marabara. Así que he pensado que estaría bien recopilar unas cuantas de esas ideas en una sola entrada.

Hay mil formas de envolver regalos, envíos, paquetes en general. Y lo mejor, al menos para mi, es ir jugando con diferentes materiales y colores. Así no te cansas nunca y te van surgiendo nuevas ideas.

Las cajitas y sobres pequeños son hechos por mi. Muchas veces no encuentras las medidas que necesitas, o los colores. También es una buena manera de usar restos de material que te haya sobrado de algún otro proyecto. Ya sabéis que no tiro nada ;). Dentro de poco pondré algún tutorial con el paso a paso, porque es bien sencillo y los envoltorios quedan genial.

From time to time I publish some photos of the packaging I am using for Marabara's deliveries. So I thought it could be a good idea to compile some of those ideas into a single post.

There are many possibilities to package your presents or orders. You can play and have a lot of fun combining different materials and colors. That way your packages will not be boring and you will get new ideas every time.

The little boxes and small Kraft envelopes are DIY. Many times you cannot find the right size or the color you were looking for. A good alternative is to do it yourself, and you will have the possibility to use some scraps from other projects.

I hope you like it and find some inspiration!

One for my niece

Prometí a mi sobrina que le haría una banderola como regalo de cumpleaños. Y se ha hecho esperar. Pero ya está terminada, lista para que la cuelgue en su habitación. Como se suele decir, más vale tarde que nunca.

Ya que su color preferido es el malva, ése es el color predominante, que he combinado con naranja y algún azul. Colores pastel que le dan un aire romántico, no os parece?

I promised my little niece to make her a bunting garland as a birthday present. Time flies and she's been waiting for it too long time. Anyway, as we use to say, it is better later than never. And, here it is, ready to be used at her bedroom.

Since her favorite color is purple this is the one I chose as main color, combined with orange and a little bit of blue.

Hace unos días Eva, de EvaAlba Artesanía, dedicó un post muy bonito a Marabara. Una entrevista muy chula, donde podéis conocer un poquito más de Marabara y de mi.

Conozco a Eva, virtualmente, de hace ya tiempo, desde que vi sus trabajos en Artesanio. Después hemos coincido en un curso de fotografía de producto que impartía Neus Manteiga. Eva es un encanto y hace unas cosa preciosas, no tenéis más que pasearos por su web o su tienda online para verlo por vosotros mismos.

A few days ago Eva, from Eva Alba Artesanía, published a lovely post about Marabara. A very nice interview, where you can know a little bit more about Marabara and myself.

I know Eva, virtually, for quite some time already, since I saw her creations in Artesanio. After that we have met again in a photo training session. Eva is a beautiful person as well as a great artisan. You just need to visit her website or online shop to see that.

New material, new designs

Este verano he jugado con materiales y diseños nuevos, tenía ganas desde hace tiempo. Y fue ponerme con los bocetos del diseño y no parar hasta tenerlos listos.
El resultado, unos bolsos que combinan piel sintética y un estampado de algodón. Este material es una gozada de lo suave que es, yo no me canso de acariciarlo. El tacto es increíble, una pena que no se pueda apreciar en las fotos.

Este modelo de bolso se puede usar en dos versiones, bandolera o clutch. En la versión bandolera cabe de todo, así que para el día a día es ideal. Pero si quieres usarlo para alguna ocasión más especial o te gustan los bolsos más pequeños, con sólo desmontar el asa tienes un bolso de mano perfecto.

This summer I've playing with new materials and new designs, I was really looking forward to do so. Once I started working on the designs I couldn't stop till they were finished.

The result... this new bags, which combine synthetic leather and a cotton print. This leather is wonderful, so soft and nice when you touch it. It is a pity that you cannot feel through the pictures.

This new design can be used in two different ways, either as a messenger bag, where you can carry everything you need during your day to day life, or as a clutch, just removing the handle. This way you can use it for special occasions or when you prefer a smaller bag.
