Thanks everybody to participate and leave so many good ideas. I have collected a few of them, about different possibilities to use this organizer:

- to carry crafts tools (cross stitch, embroidery...)

Aren't they great? I love the idea to use the organizer as a mini sewing kit, you never know when it could come in handy.

A special order

Hace ya unos meses de este encargo, al que quería dedicar una entrada. Por unas cosas o por otras se me ha ido pasando, ¡ y eso no puede ser! Así que no lo dejo más y os cuento la historia de este bolso y neceser.

Eva, de Con Ele de Eva, me hizo un encarguito hace un tiempo. Quería un bolso bandolera, el modelo de loneta con bolsillo frontal, para el que me pidió utilizar una tela que ella misma había comprado, un estampado japonés precioso. ¡Con lo que me gustan a mi las telas japonesas!
Para que destacase elegí una loneta en negro, dejando todo el protagonismo al bolsillo. Aparte, le hicimos unos pequeños cambios al diseño. Unas pinzas en las esquinas inferiores para darle mayor capacidad y un cierre de cremallera, en lugar de imán.

Con las prisas de la entrega, pues iba un poco retrasada, se me pasó hacerle fotos, pero Eva ha sido tan maja que me ha enviado un par de ellas, como prueba documental.

Aparte del bolso también me pidió un monedero neceser, con la misma tela japonesa. Elegimos el modelo curvado, que con ese estampado ha quedado ideal. Agrandé un pelín el patrón original, que, aparte de hacer el neceser un poco más grande, también ayudó a la hora de colocar el dibujo y poder tener una imagen entera en cada lado.

De éste sí hice fotos, un poco chapuzas, pero fotos al fin y al cabo ;)

A cambio, yo le pedí unas libretas. Estoy enamorada de las libretas de Con Ele de Eva, así que era la ocasión perfecta para hacerme con unas de ellas.

Son de esas cosas que te da pena usar de tan bonitas que son. Pero en este caso he decidido que no pueden quedarse en un cajón acumulando polvo, que hay que usarlas, porque así las disfrutaré incluso más.
Me ha costado, todo hay que decirlo, era como un crimen empezar a escribir en ellas. Pero una vez he empezado me alegro mucho de haberlo hecho. El tacto del papel es una pasada, dibujar en él es genial y poder abrir y cerrar esas libretas con esos estampados espectaculares es todo un placer.
Vamos, que ¡me encantan y requeteencantan!

Son dos libretas, una grande, que estoy usando para los diseños. Y otra pequeña para llevar siempre encima e ir anotando cualquier cosa que se me ocurra. ¡¡Preciosas las dos!!

Some months have passed since I got this custom order. I've been aiming to write about it for a long time but, for one reason or another, I never managed to do it. So it is already time to go for it, I will not wait longer!

Eva, from Con Ele de Eva, asked me to make her a bag. She wanted a messenger bag, the one with the front pocket, using a beautiful japanese print she had bought herself some time before. And you know that I love japanese fabrics!
I used a black cotton canvas for the body, so that the japanese print got all the attention. We made some slight changes, such as small darts to make it a bit bigger inside and a zipper closure, instead of a magnetic one.

As I was in a hurry to deliver the bag I forgot to take some photos. Eva has been so nice to send me a couple of them, problem solved!

Apart from the bag she also wanted a pouch, using the same fabric. We chose the curvy design, which looks pretty with this japanese print. I enlarged a bit the original pattern so that the pouch is a bit bigger and the print could fit perfectly in both sides.

In turn, I asked Eva to make a notebook for me. I am totally in love with her designs so it was the perfect opportunity to get one of them, or two...

They are so beautiful that it is hard to start using them. However, I decided to do it, instead of having them stored somewhere. And I am very happy I did it as it is a pleasure to write and draw in that paper. They are nice from the outside and delightful to use them.

I got two notebooks, a big one, which I am using for my designs, and a small one to take always with me, inside my bag. Both are so, so nice!!

Workshop at LabDIY and a giveaway

Hace una semana tuvo lugar el Evento Relámpago en el LabDIY. Fue una tarde muy divertida, con un montón de gente maja y creativa. Nos lo pasamos en grande haciendo el organizador y también charlando, porque hubo tiempo para todo. Hasta para merendar, con alguno de los cupcakes o tartas que había, una delicia.

Empezamos con unas nociones básicas de la máquina de coser, para perderle el miedo, pues había personas que no habían tocado nunca una, y suele imponer bastante al principio. Una vez empiezas y das tus primeras puntadas ves que no es nada difícil. Basta con practicar un rato y ya puedes coser tus primeras piezas.

Mi taller consistía en hacer un organizador, que puedes usar para llevar todo organizado en la maleta, o incluso en el bolso. Es multiusos y una de esas cosas que nunca viene mal tener.
Para facilitar la labor llevé ya preparados unos kits, con todas las piezas cortadas, listos para montar y coser.
Como me sobraron un par de ellos he pensado que, en vez de tenerlos almacenados en el taller, los voy a sortear entre los seguidores de Marabara, para agradeceros que siempre estéis ahí, con vuestro apoyo y comentarios. Incluiré el tutorial para que lo podáis hacer en casa sin problemas.

The Relampago Event at LabDIY took place about a week ago. We spent a very nice afternoon. We had a lot of fun making the travel organizer as well as chatting, we had time for everything! We could even enjoy a delicious cupcake, it couldn't be better.

The workshop started with a basic introduction of the sewing machine essentials, as some of the participants had never used a sewing machine. After practicing a bit the fear was completely over and they could start sewing with no problem at all.

My workshop consisted of making a travel organizer, which can be used to keep all gadgets organized when traveling, or even in your handbag. It has many possibilities, as many as you can imagine.
In order to facilitate the workshop I prepared the sewing kits in advance, with all pieces already cut and ready to be mounted and sewn.
As I still have a couple of them left, I thought it would be nice to run a giveaway among Marabara's followers, to thank you for being here with your comments and support. I will add a tutorial so you can make your organizer easily at home.

Carving stamps

Llevaba ya tiempo deseando hacer mis propios sellos. Para las etiquetas, los envoltorios e incluso para estampar en tela.
Unos cuantos paseos por internet para encontrar todos los materiales y ¡manos a la obra!
Primero, un dibujito en papel de lo que quería, pasarlo después a la plancha y finalmente carvar. Tres sencillos pasos y tienes un sello de lo más chulo.
No os pongo más detalles sobre cómo hacerlo porque hay un montón de tutoriales muy buenos en la red. Yo os recomiendo los de Ishtar Olivera, que son geniales.

Mi primer sello ha sido una casita. Este año los calendarios de adviento se entregan con una bolsa de algodón crudo, para así poder guardar el calendario una vez haya pasado la época navideña (si es que eres capaz de quitarlo. A mi me cuesta mucho, queda taaaan bien). El caso es que quería poner alguna decoración en la bolsita, para que no resultase sosa y opté por estampar unas casitas en el frontal. Ha quedado requetebonito.

Ahora tengo ganas de seguir haciendo más y más sellos, es súper divertido... y engancha.
Estoy convencida de que es el comienzo de una muy buena y larga amistad ;)

I've been wishing to create my own rubber stamps for a long time. To stamp labels, packaging or even to be used on fabric.

After some research in internet I got all the materials required and started working on it!

First, a drawing of the design I wanted, then transfer it on to the rubber to, finally, carving the stamp. Three easy steps and you get a nice rubber stamp.

I will not go into more details about the process as you may find a lot of very good tutorials around. I recommend Ishtar´s Olivera tutorials, they are great.

My first rubber stamp is this little house. This year the Advent Calendars are sent with a natural cotton drawstring bag, so that you can store it when Christmas is over. I wanted to decorate the bag a bit and decided to stamp on it a few little houses. I love the result, it looks so pretty!

Now I want to keep making more and more stamps, it is so funny... and addictive!

Work in progress

Voy con retraso, lo sé. Ya tengo elegidos los materiales, colores, estampados, incluso el diseño hecho. Pero ni siquiera he empezado con los patrones. Así que, sí, ya voy tarde. Aún no he entrado en el ritmo de las colecciones de temporada. Voy a mi aire, a mi ritmo, sacando cositas nuevas según demanda o según el tiempo disponible. Pero me lo he propuesto y algún día lo conseguiré, y cogeré ese tren. De momento ya he empezado con el proceso, aunque un pelín retrasada, pero más vale tarde que nunca, ¿no es cierto?

Para ir abriendo boca, un pequeñito avance de lo que tengo entre manos. La colección Otoño-Invierno 2012/13. Una colección modesta, pequeña, dos o tres diseños, no más, que las cosas hay que empezarlas con calma, despacio, para que todo salga bien.

Aún queda mucho otoño, así que espero enseñar las primeras piezas terminadas antes de que se hayan caído todas las hojas de los árboles. Y el invierno es muuuuy largo.

I am late, I know. All materials are already selected, colors and prints, even the design is ready. However I have not even started with the patterns. So, as I told you, I am already late. I did not manage yet to go into the flow of season collections. I am working at my own pace, creating new things on demand or according to the time available. But I promised myself to reach that point anytime soon and I am sure I will. For the moment I have already started with the process, even though a bit delayed, but it is better late than never, isn´t it?

To give you some hints, here it is a sneak peek of what's on my table right now. The Autumn-Winter 2012/13 collection. A very small one, just two or three designs, no more, starting slowly, so that everything goes fine.

Autumn has just started so I aim to show you the first pieces before the trees loose all their leaves. Furthermore the winter is soooo long.

Marabara´s workshop at LabDIY

En unos poquitos días tendrá lugar el Evento Relámpago de Hecho Por Mi, concretamente el día 29. Un día en el que se ofrecen un montón de talleres diferentes, a cada cual más chulo.

Talleres de cuatro horas de duración, con todo el material incluído, por sólo 15€. Todo lo recaudado se destinará íntegramente para el proyecto del LabDIY. Un espacio sin ánimo de lucro que dará acceso a sus socios a herramientas, equipos, espacio, enseñanza y apoyo de una comunidad creativa para poder diseñar, crear y fabricar cualquier cosa que se les ocurra.

Yo estaré allí, impartiendo un taller de costura, donde aparte de perderle el miedo a la máquina de coser, porque empezaremos por ahí, desde cero, también haremos este organizador de viaje tan bonito. Para llevar todas esas cosas que siempre andan rodando por la maleta, como el cargador del móvil, los cables de la cámara, el ratón del PC... Para eso, o para lo que tú quieras.

In a few days the Relampago Event, organized by Hecho Por Mi, will take place, on September 29th, to be more precise. A day full of workshops, very nice ones.

These workshops will last for 4 hours, with all material included, for only 15€. The income will be donated to the LabDIY Project. A nonprofit space which will give access to its affiliates to a wide range of tools, education an support from a creative community to be able to design, create and produce anything you may think about.

I will be there, giving a sewing class, where you will loose any fear to the sewing machine. Because we will start from scratch, from the very basics. Apart from that, we will create this lovely travel organizer, very useful to carry all those things that usually are moving around inside your suitcase, such as cables, mouse... For sure you can find many other ways to use it, there are endless possibilities!
