Special guests

Aunque el título del post pueda despistar, no, no tengo visitas en casa. Pero sí he tenido unos invitados especiales en la última sesión de fotos.
Tenía pendiente hacerle fotos a este joyero de viaje. Y qué mejor atrezzo que unas piezas de otros diseñadores. Cositas que he ido comprando en Artesanio. Un anillo Fruncido de Vacía la nevera y un anillo de aluminio de Osmit. Quedan preciosos, ¿no os parece?.

Do not get confused by the title of this post. No, I have no visitors at home. But I did have some special guests for the last photo session.
I had to take some pictures of the last travel jewelry roll I've made. And I thought it would be a good idea to use some creations from other designers as atrezzo. Pieces that I have bought in Artesanio. A silver ring from Vacía la nevera and another one made of aluminium from Osmit. They look beautiful, don't you think so?

Relaxing days

Así han sido los últimos días. Desconexión total y relax. De vez en cuando no viene mal perderse por un tiempo, sin acceso a internet, sin posibilidad de que el ordenador te tiente a navegar durante un rato. Días para disfrutar del tiempo, dar paseos, leer, jugar a algún juego de mesa, charlar, incluso a veces no hacer nada, que también es un placer.


The last few days have been relaxing and quiet. From time to time is good to have no connection to internet, no possibilities to be tempted by the computer to surf in the internet world. Days to enjoy your time, walk, read, play, talk and, do nothing in some moments, which is also a pleasure.

La pena ha sido ver el monte arder, una vez más. Es triste, se te cae el alma a los pies. Las Hurdes tiene (me niego a decir tenía) unos paisajes preciosos, que solían estar plagados de árboles. Pinos, alcornoques, encinas, junto con jaras y retamas. Un paisaje increíble que unos pocos se empeñan en destrozar año tras año. Es algo que no me entra en la cabeza. Por suerte, esta vez el incendio pudo ser controlado en el mismo día. Esperemos que no haya más. ¡No es justo!

Unfortunately we've seen again the same scenario as last years, the mountain was on fire. It is sad, very sad. Las Hurdes (in Cáceres, Extremadura) is a very nice area, with wonderful landscapes. They used to be full of trees. Pine trees, oaks, together with rockroses and brooms. A fantastic environment which a few try to destroy year after year. Something which I cannot understand. Luckily, this time the fire was under control on the same day. I hope this will be the last one. Please!

About custom orders

Cómo me gusta recibir pedidos de "caras conocidas", clientes que vuelven a pasarse por Marabara y repiten. Me hace sentir bien. Y me encanta pensar que las cositas que han recibido les han gustado, y que las están disfrutando, y que por eso repiten.

En muchas ocasiones son también esas personas que te dan libertad absoluta, en la elección de estampados y colores, en el diseño. Y aunque a veces suponga todo un reto, y quizá dudes si tu elección es la que ellos tenían en mente o no, el hecho en sí demuestra total confianza, y eso vale mucho.
Normalmente el proceso completo lleva unos cuantos días. Intercambio de ideas, sugerencias, decisiones finales... hasta llegar al diseño definitivo. Luego siempre te queda esa sensación rara cuando dejas el pedido en Correos, a la espera de que lo que envías sea lo que esperaban.

Durante las últimas semanas he tenido entre manos unos cuantos de estos pedidos. Una funda de iPad, un par de bolsos bandolera (uno de ellos muy especial, lástima que no le haya hecho fotos, ¡me da una rabia! a ver si no me vuelve a pasar), unos monederos con sus llaveros a juego...
Yo he quedado muy contenta con los resultados. Espero que a ellos también les gusten :)

I really love to receive orders from returning customers. It makes me feel good. Because it means a lot. I want to think that they liked what they received in the first order and enjoy it, being that the reason why they come back again.

In many occasions they give me complete freedom to choose the colors and prints and decide on the design. Even though that means quite a lot of responsiblity and you may doubt if that is what they had in mind, it also means a total confidence in what you are doing, and that's great.

Normally the whole process takes some time, some mails exchanged, ideas and suggestions going back and forth, decisions... till we get to the final design. Once ready and left at the Postal Office I always have that strange feeling, hoping that the customer will like it as much as I do.

During the last weeks I've had several of these custom orders. An iPad sleeve, a couple of canvas messenger (one of them was very, very special. Unfortunately I did not take any picture...), some wallets with their respective coordinated key fobs...

I am very, very happy with the results. I hope they think the same :)

Dip, dip, dip!

Con el calor apetecen cosas fresquitas y ligeras. ¿Y qué mejor aperitivo que un dip de queso fresco? Sencillo, rápido, fresco y sano, muy, muy sano.

La receta es sencilla. Tan fácil que los niños pueden incluso participar, y se lo pasan en grade rallando los ingredientes.
Necesitas un envase de queso de untar (yo he usado uno que lleva yogur), media manzana rallada, medio pepino rallado, perejil y un poquitín de ajo picado muy fino. Solamente hay que mezclar todos los ingredientes y acompañarlo de verduras en bastoncitos para picotear. Zanahoria, pimiento rojo, pepino... lo que más te guste o tengas en la nevera. Nosotros hemos puesto también unos colines, y están (estaban) riquísimos.

There is no better appetizer than a fresh, chilly and light cream cheese dip. And so easy to make. Your kids will also enjoy preparing it.

You just need cream cheese (I used one with yoghurt), half apple (grated), half cucumber (grated), parsley and a pinch of garlic, finely chopped. Mix all ingredients and serve with sticks of carrots, red pepper, cucumber. We also had some bread sticks, they are (were) also delicious.

Crafting with kids

Por fin llegó el verano. Y con él las vacaciones de los niños. Por una temporada decimos adiós a los madrugones del colegio (con qué ganas lo estaba esperando) y damos la bienvenida a los días sin horarios, sin prisas. Pero que también vienen acompañados de las temidas frases "me aburro...", "no sé qué hacer...", que siempre, siempre, se acaban repitiendo. Así que hay que darle a la cabecita para idear entretenimientos varios. Os dejo unas ideas para esos días tontorrones, que nosotros ya hemos puesto en práctica.


Summer is finally here, as well as school vacation. We will say good bye to the wake up call for some weeks (I was really looking forward to that, by the way) and we say hello to long lasting days, with no timetable. Those days which come together with certain phrases, such as "I am boring..." "What can I do?...". So you need to think a bit and come up with different ideas to keep your kids entertained. Here I give you some ideas for those situations, which I can tell you, we have already practiced.

Marionetas con calcetines/ socks puppets
Nada más fácil como sacrificar un calcetín y convertirlo en marioneta. Aparte de ser ideal para dar salida a esos calcetines que se van quedando desparejados y da pena tirar, da mucho juego y les entretiene durante un buen rato. Sobre todo a la hora de colocar los pelitos de lana.

Nothing easier than using old socks to create some marionettes. Apart from being quite useful to make use of unpaired socks, they are funny to make and will keep your kids busy for some time, specially while attaching the hair.

Casitas de cartón / Cardboard Little houses
Aprovechando una cajita de cartón podemos hacer unas casitas preciosas con sólo forrarlas de papeles de colores. La que hemos usado nosotros es una de té. Seguro que unas cuantas, de diferentes tamaños y colores, quedan chulísimas como decoración.

Using empty cardboard boxes you can create really nice little houses, with just a few decorated papers. We have used a tea box, for example. Definitely you can get a very nice village making several ones in different sizes and colors.

Pensamientos...

Después de volver a leer el post veo que me ha salido el lado sentimental. Pero, oye, de vez en cuando viene bien dar rienda suelta a tus pensamientos. ¡Y hoy me apetecía hacerlo! Así que, aquí os lo dejo, para el que quiera seguir leyendo.

Si hay algo que realmente me gusta de toda esta aventura en la que me he metido es el hecho de ir conociendo a gente por el camino. Gente que, como tú, hace sus pinitos en esto del mundillo handmade, con los que acabas entablando conversaciones y compartiendo momentos. A los que animas y te animan, sin esperar nada a cambio, sin haberles puesto cara si siquiera.

Y gente que se interesa por tus creaciones y que repite pedidos. Aquellos con los que intercambias mails de ideas, diseños y estampados. Con los que muchas veces acabas hablando de temas cotidianos. Que dedican parte de su tiempo a escribirte una vez recibido el envío y decirte lo mucho que les gusta, que agradecen tu cariño y atención, que incluso te envían alguno foto. Esos pedidos que van más allá de una referencia de compra y una transacción de Paypal.

Todo esto es lo que hace que merezca la pena el esfuerzo.

Denim

Este es uno de los primeros modelos de bolsos que empecé a hacer, y me sigue gustando tanto como el primer día. Es un bolso comodísimo y muy versátil. Admite tantas combinaciones que es imposible cansarse de hacerlos.

Habitualmente los hago con asa vaquera y un mosquetón para poder acortarla a la mitad. En esta ocasión he querido darle un toque diferente y le he puesto un asa más estrechita, de símil piel, que se engancha con mosquetones. De esta manera se puede quitar y convertir el bolso en uno de mano, que queda estupendamente, verdad?

This is one of the first bags I started making, and I still love it like the first day. It is so comfortable and easy to wear. Besides it can be made with so many combinations of fabric that I cannot get tired of making them.


Usually they come with a denim strap. This time I wanted to change a bit and I decided to add a thin strap, attached to the bag my means of swivel hooks. That way you can remove it completely and use the bag as a clutch, which looks beautiful, isn't it?

Feelings

De igual forma que ciertas situaciones o momentos nos provocan determinadas sensaciones, los objetos, materiales, formas o colores también.
Pensaréis que estoy loca, o que soy un poco ñoña, pero hay telas que me transmiten sensaciones. Como la tela de este bolso. Será el estampado, o serán los colores, pero el caso es que me produce una felicidad instantánea. Y es que, mientras extendía la tela sobre la mesa para cortarla es lo que me vino a la cabeza. Hay otras que te dan energía, ésta fue felicidad.

Así que aquí os dejo unas fotos del bolso en cuestión para que comprobéis si a vosotros también os sucede. Ya me contaréis...

You might think I am going crazy but fabric causes this kind of feelings to me. Like the fabric I used for this bag. I do not know if it is due to the print, or the colors, the fact is that it makes me happy.
