Our homemade coffee table

This is our homemade coffee table, the one we have in the living room. I say homemade because we built it ourselves, using as raw material some tables from IKEA, the LACK model to be more precise.

I had seen a similar table before in a furniture shop. It cost quite a lot for just a simple coffee table so I started thinking about a possible way to build one at a more affordable price.
When looking at the LACK table I got the idea. Why not use several ones to get a bigger table? Finally we used seven tables (only the top part, the legs are stored for any future possible project). Three for the base, one on top of each other, and four for the top, in a square composition. These ones have a small gap between them to give it a lighter and modern aspect. I made the design and my hubby made the construction. That's teamwork, isn't it?

Stones?

I am in love with these poufs, the Livingstones from Smarin. They are so different from what you are used to that they caught my eye. I can even imagine them in my living room.... They would look soooo nice! You can find them in different sizes, featuring poufs or cushions.
BUT (a but with capital letters), there is a problem. They are expensive, really expensive. At least for me. So I am afraid I will just be able to look at the pictures... snif...

Homemade bread: recipe no.3

This bread is made following the same procedure as the one explained here and here. This is just another combination which results in a slightly sweet bread. In this case I added some dehydrated apricots, cut in small pieces, and walnuts. It is ideal for a healthy breakfast, a couple of slices of bread with cream cheese and red pepper... yummy! Pour yourself a cup of tea and enjoy!

Makeup pouch

Some weeks ago I started working on these makeup pouches, following the instructions from the book I love patchwork. Well, I left them apart for quite long time, while I was busy with the last handmade presents and some other stuff. This past weekend I invested some time on it and managed to finalize them. Actually there were just minor details remaining. But, you know, once you put something out of sight... it disappear of your mind as well.

Finally they are ready and available here.

They are made of a soft 100% cotton, the same one that I used for the comfort pack, and a selection of different cotton prints in an aqua range. The pouches have a patchwork front and back, combining the solid cotton and the prints, and a coordinated polka dot ribbon to embellish the zipper.

The lining is one of the cotton prints used in the exterior.

Blue & Red sky

Today we had one of those days with absolutely clear blue sky. This beautiful background and the nice temperatures invited to go outside and simply enjoy the views. So I did this afternoon!

As it happened last year, we start getting some visitors in the garden. Today I counted ten of them in just a quick look. In a few days we will have hundred ladybirds around. I do not mind though, they are really nice and, moreover, they act as natural pest controllers. Welcome back!

The kids like them a lot and spend quite some time trying to make them run on their hands and arms. It is so funny. I remember I used to do that as well when I was a child. Some things never change.

The perfect end for the day was this beautiful sunset. A burning sky.

Human Planet

My friend Cris sent me this short video a couple of days ago. It is simply amazing! So, here you go:

Aren't they pretty?

I love orchids! They are so beautiful and rewarding. They do not require too much care, just a bit of water from time to time and light. That's all! Fulfilling these needs they will give you lots of nice little flowers which last for a long, long period, up to three months in some cases.

I bought these ones, called Cambria, almost two years ago in IKEA. Since then they have bloomed already three times, it seems that they like the place where they are located.

Productive weekend

The Black & White Leaves Clutch is already on its way to France, its new home. Therefore, it was time to make some more handbags.
The first one is also black and white (I love this combination), being the main fabric a very nice paisley print. The lining is following the same color scheme, with a very small pattern.

The second one is yellow and white, which makes it perfect for spring or summer time. The lining is a crispy shirting fabric, also yellow and white.

Both are now available here and here.

This weekend has been very productive as I also managed to finalize some makeup pouches that were left apart for quite some time, too long I would say... I have no photos yet though. As soon as I am ready I will show them.

Marabara Kids

Apart from bags and clutches, I love to create things for the small ones. It is a lot of fun and I do believe it is a very good way to boost their creativity, giving them something different from the usual toys or products that you can find in any shop out there. With this in mind, I have added a specific section for them in my Etsy shop. These creations deserve their own name as well, so they will be labelled as Marabara Kids.

To start with I have listed the kids apron, which can be personalized, if you wish, with the kid's name. You can find it here.

This recipe is a brilliant success at home. The combination of a soft sponge cake and the little pieces of apple is so delicate that you can't stop eating them...

Ingredients (aprox. 22 units):
80 gr sugar
8 gr vanilla sugar
2 eggs
100 gr margarine
260 gr flour
8 gr baking powder
3 apples (cut in small pieces)
Icing sugar for decoration

Preparation:
Beat the eggs with the sugar and vanilla sugar till you get a whitish mixture. Add the margarine, followed by the flour and baking powder. Add the apples and mix.

Using two spoons, divide the preparation in, aproximately, 22 portions. Pre-heat the oven at 200 ºC and bake for 10 minutes.

Once cold, sprinkle the apple clouds with icing sugar.

I've seen this recipe in L'EXQUISIT, one of my favourite cooking blogs.

Citrus

It is amazing to see how nature adapt to the environment. We have a lemon tree and some other citrus. Due to the weather conditions in this area (we have very cold winters) we need to keep them inside as they freeze easily. So they are protected in the winter garden. The trees must get really confused and they started blooming a few days ago. The lovely smell is spreading all around the place now.

The one below is a Kumquat, which already has some fruits. I guess it was even more confused and bloomed earlier than the others...

Black & White Clutch and... some news

This is the last curvy clutch I have made. A black & white version, which can be used for any occasion. I find it very elegant. I love it! For the moment, this is my favourite one.
The exterior fabric is a leaves motif. For the lining I chose a white background with polka dots in black color, matching the main fabric scheme. The size is again a 110% enlarged pattern, measuring 28 cm (wide) x 14 cm (high) x 10 cm (deep).

And... I have some news, which make me really happy. I will be opening my own Etsy shop! It is already registered although not fully settled. My plan it to have it up and running very, very soon. Stay tuned!
This black & white clutch and some others I am working on at this moment, in the same style, will be for sale. In the meantime, if you are interested on any particular product, just contact me!

Below you can see some photos with the clutch "in action" so that you can get a better idea about the size.

Strawberry crumble

The first strawberries are already in the supermarkets. As soon as I saw them this morning I thought about this recipe. I saw it in Gastronomía&Cia last spring and I have repeated it many times since then. As they say, once you prepare it you will never forget it. They are absolutely right!

This recipe is not only delicious, but also very, very easy to prepare. Here we go:

Ingredients:
850 gr strawberries
180 gr sugar
80 gr flour
40 gr ground almonds
20 gr oat flakes
60 gr butter
cinnamon (to taste)

Preparation:
Cut the strawberries in medium size pieces, mix with 100 gr of sugar and soak for some minutes. Meanwhile, using your fingers, mix the remaining 80 gr of sugar with the rest of the ingredients. At the beginning you may think that nothing will come out from there, just insist, get your hands dirty and you will get a perfect crumble. Grease a baking pan with butter. Poor the strawberries in the pan and distribute the crumble on top. Pre-heat the oven at 190 ºC and bake for 25-30 minutes, till golden.
You can serve this delight with cream or ice cream. We like to eat it warm, with vanilla ice cream. The combination of warm and cold temperatures is simply fantastic! And the taste... hmmm, you better try it!
